Mick Hughes started his career in 1961 as elec­tri­cian for the Mar­gate Stage Com­pany. The first West End pro­duc­tion he lit was The Fight­ing Cock in 1966. which trans­ferred from Chich­ester where he has lit 10 sea­sons. He directed 40 plays for Worces­ter Rep from 1967 to 1972 and lit all the plays at The Chich­ester Fes­ti­val The­atre from 1966 to 1969 and from 1974 to 1979. From 1978 to 1982 he was Light­ing Con­sul­tant for The Hong Kong Arts Fes­ti­val. Con­sul­tant on The New Hamp­stead The­atre Club.
